After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music with a Postgraduate Diploma in Musical Theatre and Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in Singing Teaching, Charlie-Jade spent time performing across both the musical theatre and opera platforms, whilst building her career as a singing teacher. Ten years on, this is now where her career is most prevalent. Having held teaching positions initially at Emil Dale Academy, Laine Theatre Arts and Mountview, she is now Associate Professor of Singing at LAMDA, where she leads on Vocal Health, is on the Technical Singing faculty at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and Arts Ed, and runs a busy private studio for professional artists at The Practice.

Her research across health and psychology means that approach to teaching singing involves the whole performer, not just the voice. Using a collaborative and evidence-based approach, alongside her knowledge across physiology, psychology and experience of combining emotional and musical instinct with technique, she works with each individual to encourage vocal development, harnesses a clients’ unique sound, and ensures that no matter the genre, they are singing healthily and efficiently.

In addition to her PhD research in Performing Arts Health, she graduated with Distinction in her MSc Performance Science from the Royal College of Music with research across Health Experiences and Perceptions in Drama School Training, and research into the impact of Stress in Psychogenic Voice Disorders. She regularly collaborates with specialist clinicians (some of which can be found in The Practice Directory) and undertakes clinic observations in a leading NHS Voice Clinic. She is an Associate of The Royal Society of Medicine and member of the British Voice Association and Healthy Conservatoires Network.

Singing is not a one size fits all, and you may wish to know that lessons are not taught according to one particular pedagogical approach, but combine knowledge and understanding of a variety of approaches across vocal pedagogy as well as physiology and psychology to deliver bespoke training for each individual.

CLIENT DESTINATIONS

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

“I had previously worked with Charlie-Jade in a show and sought her help after I came out of a rock heavy musical theatre contract and was feeling rather blocked in my versatility and range, along with having natural voice changes. I was at an unsteady place with my voice and Charlie helped me start on the right path in rediscovering and eventually freeing up my voice and range in different styles. Always positive and knowledgable, Charlie was able to identify my blocks very quickly and helped me understand my voice and gain confidence back”

FAQs

  • Lessons Mon-Fri take place at Dance Attic Studios, Fulham Broadway and lessons on a Saturday at in Richmond Upon Thames.

  • Frequently is always best however this isn’t always possible for a variety of reasons. All I ask is that if you are a new student you have lessons weekly or bi-weekly for your first 5/6 lessons. This is so that we can get a solid foundation of working together and you are able to see development. After this point, every 3-4 weeks can be beneficial to maintain.

  • Due to high demand, lessons cancelled without 24 hours notice will still be charged.

  • I teach performers working professionally across all ages.

  • I am hugely experienced working with nervous and anxious singers having spent part of my MSc researching Perfectionism and Performance Anxiety and how to help these traits.
