MEET CHARLIE-JADE

An alumna of both the Royal Academy of Music and Royal College of Music, Charlie-Jade graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Musical Theatre and MSc in Performance Science, respectively. Currently, she is a PhD Candidate within the Centre for Performance Science, a collaboration between the Royal College of Music and Imperial College London. Supported by an RCM Doctoral Scholarship, her research sits within the areas of Occupational Health, Performing Arts Medicine and Psychology.

Her early career was dedicated to professional performance, making her debut in Anything Goes: A 50th Anniversary Celebration of Cole Porter with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra at Cadogan Hall. Further performances included Blitzstein’s No For An Answer (Arcola Theatre), Redgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), The 10th Anniversary of Howard Goodall and Erich Segal’s Love Story (Cadogan Hall) and Jason Robert Brown’s Parade (Frogmore Papermill). Additionally, she has sung for recording projects at Abbey Road Studios and for outreach projects with Opera Holland Park, as well as writing and touring her solo show about the life of Marni Nixon, The Soprano Behind The Screen, which was featured on BBC Radio 2.

In 2022, Charlie-Jade began moving into the world of science and research and graduated from the Royal College of Music’s MSc Performance Science with Distinction. Her research project, Health Experiences and Perceptions in UK Drama School Training is currently being re-worked for publication. Additional research during her Masters included The Impact of Stress on Psychogenic Voice Disorders and the History of Teaching Breathing For Singing.

Her career teaching in higher education began at Emil Dale Academy and Laine Theatre Arts. Since, she held positions on Mountview’s BA Actor Musician and Cert HE Musical Theatre programmes, as well as covering for both the BA and MA Musical Theatre courses. She is now Assistant Professor of Singing at LAMDA, leading in the teaching of  singing technique across acting and musical theatre degree programmes, and manages the vocal health cases throughout. In addition to her work here, she holds positions within the Musical Theatre faculty at both Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and Arts Ed (where she was previously external assessor) and teaches professional performers at The Practice.

She holds a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music in Singing Teaching, a Cert HE in Fundamental Anatomy, Certificate in Psychological Performance Coaching, and has completed courses across a variety of pedagogical approaches. She regularly collaborates with specialist clinicians and undertakes clinic observations in a leading NHS Voice Clinic. She is an Associate of The Royal Society of Medicine and member of the British Voice Association and Healthy Conservatoires Network. Charlie-Jade’s clients can be seen in roles across the West End and in UK Tours including in productions of Mamma Mia, The Phantom of the Opera and Sister Act.
